Yesterday morning — Monday, July 28, 2025 — on the sidewalk outside the Chris White Gallery, I noticed I had two shadows from the low sunlight reflected in the large plate-glass windows.
Hard to explain except to say one is from my shadow being reflected and the other is from the reflected light casting a second shadow.
Another way of saying it: my body blocks sunlight from hitting the window, so a black shape reflects onto the sidewalk. At the same time, sunlight hits the window with nothing blocking it but, when it hits my body, it casts a second shadow.
This is very close to the spot where Chris White was killed when a desperate man fleeing the police drove his vehicle up onto the sidewalk. The gallery I manage is named for his work creating the non-profit gallery and the 23-unit apartment building where artists are the preferred tenants.
