Elemental Recreation

Young men in stinging water spray

The utopian village of Arden, Delaware celebrates July 4th with competitive races such as the slow bicycle race. Then, after watermelon and refreshments, the fire hydrant at the corner of the Arden Green is opened for about fifteen minutes.

The spraying water gives these photos a pointellist feel. The people twisting and turning in the stinging drops are like dancers, or actors playing out some elemental confrontation.
