In exchange for a reasonable donation to help cover his home’s expenses, Sir Richard Ranulph FitzHerbert, 9th Baronet, led us on a tour of his home, Tissington Hall, in the Peak District of Derbyshire. We won the prize for coming the furthest for the tour of this house, not only for driving the furthest that morning but also for being the furthest from home.
By giving tours, by renting out rooms in this house dating from 1609, by opening Tissington Hall for weddings, by writing articles, and by other means, the baronet is able to raise the £200,000 a year needed just to maintain the house and grounds, including insurance and taxes. The baronet has a blog: The Baronet’s Diary.
